Beschreibung: Tasks
Support is sought primarily to perform ground segment network engineering activities on Low Earth Orbit (LEO) ground segments. The applicant will be integrated in the LEO System Team, and will interface with: - In-house specialists in communications networks - In-house specialists in related domains, such as operations and space segment - External organisations as necessary to ensure commonality and compatibility with external networks - External industry as necessary to provide technical definition, design guidance, performance analyses, testing and acceptance of systems delivered by industry. The applicant shall carry out tasks related to LEO Ground Segment network engineering, including requirements analysis and definition, architectural design, development, integration and acceptance. He shall also perform the integration of the LEO Ground Segment networks with communications and physical infrastructure. The applicant shall provide communications network support to the LEO Ground Segment requirements analysis and definition, architectural design, development, integration and acceptance. He shall provide all necessary support to ensure the seamless integration of the communications network with the ground segment hardware and application software.
In particular during the consultancy support the following tasks will be carried out: - Analysis and definition of ground segment network requirements, taking into account the ground segment application level requirements, including the corresponding connectivity, availability, integrity, data rates, latency and security requirements; - Design of the ground segment networks, including network management, performance monitoring, network configuration and connectivity to external systems, address schemes and allocations, choice and configuration of protocols and physical media; - Implementation, test, acceptance and tuning of the ground segment networks; - Support to ensure that ground segment applications and elements (such as satellite monitor and control, and mission planning systems) are integrated seamlessly via the network; - Integration of the LEO ground segment networks with existing and planned network infrastructure; - Analysis, planning and performance of network evolutions, taking care of compatibility issues between subsystems; - Integration, Verification and Validation, (IV&V), of the network system upgrades; - Support to Ground Segment operations concepts definition; - Support to Ground Segment requirements analysis and definition; - Support to Ground Segment architectural design; - Support to Ground Segment development, integration and acceptance - Support to Ground segment reviews; - Support to the definition of communications infrastructure requirements and implementation.
The applicant is expected to write and review requirement specifications, design documentation and change proposals, prepare procurements, participate in technical inspections and reviews, write evaluation reports, review reports, test reports and overall status reports.
Requirements The activities to be covered by this applicant require a senior network engineer, with a solid expertise in the design and implementation of network architectures for space applications, and preferably for Earth Observation Systems. The applicant shall have demonstrated experience of designing networks to be used in a 24/7 non-stop operational or a production environment, characterized by custom applications in addition to standard software, running both on the client and server side, and by high security and availability requirements. The applicant is required to demonstrate an adequate duration of professional work in this field and to have proven Cisco knowledge or be able to substantiate equivalent experience. In particular, the consultant shall have the following experience and background: - University degree in the domain of physics, engineering, science, or equivalent. - At least 5 years of experience in the field of ground segment network engineering for space systems, preferably in the area of Earth Observation. - This experience must also cover the overall planning of network engineering activities and the coordination and technical guidance of other engineers contributing to the activities. - Familiarity with complex systems including monitoring and control of satellites and near real-time data processing and distribution. - Ability to analyse complex systems and to present them in a comprehensible way, with the specific ability to understand relevant details while keeping the focus on the overall system aspects. - Demonstrated capability to prepare design documents and to perform and document system-level analyses in a clear and concise way. - Experience with the development cycle of large systems from the definition of requirements to system design and testing. - Familiarity with standards used for space programmes. - Knowledge of configuration control processes. - Knowledge of Cisco network equipments and architectures. - Experience of 24/7 non-stop network operations. Furthermore, the consultant shall have a goal oriented attitude with a good level of communication skills enabling working effectively in a large integrated team distributed in different geographical locations. The applicant shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, shall be able to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with a minimum of supervision.
